A 90-year-old Upper Milford Township woman was victimized by a scam that cost her nearly $3,300, according to state police at Fogelsville.
The woman, of the 4500 block of Chestnut Street, reported that she received a telephone call Feb. 28 from someone who said her grandson was in need of help, police said. The male caller said he and her grandson were in Spain. The caller said the grandson was involved in a serious car accident and needed her to send $3,295 via Western Union to cover medical expenses and costs associated with a rental car.
The woman sent the money to Spain, police said, but later learned of the ruse. The incident is considered theft by deception.
State police also received a theft report from a 91-year-old Upper Milford resident on March 5. In this case, police said someone broke into the Shimersville Road home and stole an unspecified amount of money and a checkbook.
Police offered no description but asked anyone with information to contact them at 610-395-1438.
