Through Tax Refund, You Can Support Breast Cancer Research in PA

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) has an annual program that allows Pennsylvania taxpayers to support cancer research in the Keystone State.

The program is called Refunds for Research.

By checking "YES" on line 35 of the PA 40 tax form, any taxpayer can donate all or part of his or her state income tax refund to breast and cervical cancer research, and every penny contributed goes directly to cancer researchers as they work for a cure.

By donating, the taxpayer will join thousands of Pennsylvania tax filers who have contributed to over $2.8 million for Pennsylvania-based cancer research.

Recent recipients of the funds include doctors at Penn State University, the University of Pennsylvania and  Thomas Jefferson University.

"Pennsylvania residents have raised over $2.8 million for breast cancer research through thousands of donations of every size," said Pat Halpin-Murphy, president and founder of the PBCC. "The generosity of the citizens of this state for the program has been overwhelming.

"This simple and effective program, and the support of so many Pennsylvanians, reinforces our commitment to finding a cure now ... so our daughters won't have to."

The PBCC worked with the state Legislature to enact the Income Tax Check-Off for Breast & Cervical Cancer Research, which has since become one of the most popular refund donation options in Pennsylvania.

The funds raised through this initiative support breast and cervical cancer researchers in Pennsylvania. The PBCC, a statewide nonprofit organization, represents, supports and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy and breast cancer research grants.
