Even with less food donations, the student council plans to feed more friends than ever before.

In all, 116 families – who have at least one child in Hatboro-Horsham schools – will receive a delivery of three boxes of food today as part of the annual holiday food drive, according to Dave Thomas, student council co-advisor.

“It’s been a tough year,” Thomas said. “The donations are definitely not what they were last year.”

Thomas said students collected about 10,000 non-perishable food items – about 40,000 fewer items than in past years. But, because of a greater need within the Hatboro-Horsham community, 24 more families will receive food this year as compared to .

Instead of each family receiving four boxes of food plus a turkey or ham, each household will receive three boxes of food, Thomas said.

“We’re still giving them a lot,” Thomas said. “I want to give them more.”
