Concerns of flooding have prompted Hatboro residents to create an online petition to oppose a townhouse proposal at Fulmor Ave and Warminster Road.
The petition urges Hatboro Borough Council to deny requests to build the 85-townhome development, which would be located on a 100-year flood plain.
“A 100-year flood plain, as defined by FEMA, is an area that has a one in one hundred chance of flooding in a given year. Interfering with these natural function can exacerbate flooding, resulting in costly property damage and loss of life,” the petition reads.
The petition, created by Kristen Shubick, had 269 supporters as of noon on Tuesday.
Comments on the petition urged local leaders to reject the proposal.
“Hatboro is going to do what they want to do, however I do wish they would rethink this proposal. The traffic on Warminster Road is already horrendous and with studio apartments being built on Jacksonville Road. At this point I will never get out of my driveway! Can we have some sort of open space left?” wrote one resident
“I live in Fulmor Heights and have a concern about the flooding in our area. The flooding seems to worsen each year. I think the building of townhouses at Fulmor and Warminster would only create more flooding issues,” another said.
