Petitions in Support of Marino, Police Reform Hit Web

Three days after the shooting death by a Perkasie Police officer of Quakertown man Michael W. Marino Jr., 26, friends and family members have taken to Facebook and Change.org calling for justice and police reform.

A petition for justice for Marino and police reform has begun as a public event on Facebook. The petition itself has 529 supporters as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.

A similar petition has begun on Change.org as well. You can sign the "Petition for Justice and Police Reform to Respect Consitutional Rights" by clicking this highlighted link.

The Change.org petition was started by Stephen Reichman of Perkasie. As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, it had 46 out of 500 signatures.

The petition's purpose on Change.org is as follows:

The police in Pennsylvania state range from nice, respectful individuals who keep people safe to intolerant dismissive individuals who make innocent people afraid of them, and in this particular case, killing an unarmed man.

The Facebook public event was started by Madicyn Marinaro.

The main purpose of the Facebook petition calls for citizens to stand together to show "the police distirct we want justice."

"Help my friend get what he deserves. I'm up for ideas how we can PEACEFULLY go about this. We deserve the right to speak up when the government has gone too far," wrote Marinaro.
