Truck Strikes Croydon Bridge

The railroad bridge on Cedar Avenue in the Croydon section of Bristol Township was struck by a truck Monday evening, according to reports.

Truck Strikes Croydon Bridge Truck Strikes Croydon Bridge

A tractor-trailer truck filled with paper became struck under the Cedar Avenue railroad bridge in the Croydon section of Bristol Township Monday evening, police Sgt. Chuck Burns said.

The 13-foot-tall trailer became stuck under the 12 foot, 8 inch high bridge shortly after 6 p.m.

The driver of the truck was not hurt in the incident, but the trailer was "mangled" and most likely destroyed, Burns said.

Burns said that Amtrak, who owns the bridge, was call to the scene and did not find any significant structural damage.

The truck was headed on toward Route 13 when the incident occurred. Accidents like Monday's are all too common at the bridge, Burns said.

Fire police closed Cedar Avenue between Route 13 and Magnolia Avenue for several hours until the paper products could be removed from the trailer.

As of Monday night, Burns said, officers had not filed any charges against the driver.

Patch reader Mark Kolesar submitted an image of a similar incident that happened in late August.
