Bald Eagle Spotted in Royersford

The bird was seen near 2nd Avenue.

Reader James Hoffman sent photos to Patch on Sunday of a large bald eagle sitting on a telephone pole in Royersford.

Hoffman told Patch he was on 2nd Avenue near the geriatric center when he noticed the bird, and snapped some photos of it.

Readre Jen Welsh has also sent photos of a bald eagles' nest near Schwenksville. Welsh said in an e-mail that there were two baby eagles last year, and there are eggs in the nest again this year.

Patch blogger Len Faulkner Jr. who writes the "Fishing Fever" blog, pointed out in the comments that there are some rules to follow if you encounter a bald eagle nest.

The PA Game Commission recommends that you stay 1000 feet from an active nest. You should also stay quiet and avoid threatening the eagles in any way. They are often frightened by pedestrians.

Also, if you enter restricted zones or trespass on private property, you are breaking state and federal law.

Lots of information on eagles and their recovery as a species is available at the Game Commission link above.

Have you ever seen bald eagles in the area?
