[LIMERICK, PA, JUNE 1, 2012] Jay Schaeffer, President & CEO announced that after more than three decades of exceptional service in leading (FVYMCA) finance functions, Controller Mary Denise Marsh will retire at the end of May. Marsh will remain with the FVYMCA through the end of the fiscal year in a consulting role.

“Mary Denise’s presence on our senior leadership team during the last 31 years has been a calming influence during some of the most turbulent economic times. Mary Denise’s legacy will include leaving FVYMCA with an impeccable credit rating," said Schaeffer. "Beginning as Accounting Clerk for the Phoenixville YMCA, Marsh has worked to grow our organization to become one of the top performing YMCA’s in the United States. We appreciate all that Mary Denise has done for the Freedom Valley YMCA during her tenure and we wish her the best in retirement.

Schaeffer also announced the appointment of Eric Daugherty to the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Daugherty joined the YMCA association in April from the Pennsylvania Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA) where he spent the last year as CFO.

"We are pleased to welcome Eric to our YMCA family. We are confident he will continue to further strengthen our financial discipline, maintain our strong relationships with community supporters and business leaders, and help our five YMCA branches continue creating significant membership value," said Schaeffer. "Eric understands the demands and complexities of leading a non-profit organization in today's uncertain marketplace. His diverse experience and advocacy are good matches for our YMCA."

Eric is a passionate advocate for financial literacy among students and young adults and has been involved with Junior Achievement, the Financial Planning Association Pro Bono committee, and independent work with local school districts.

Prior to joining the Freedom Valley YMCA, Daugherty served as CFO of PSPCA where he oversaw the company's finance, accounting, donor relations and related functions. Daugherty also held CFO and senior-level finance positions with industry leaders such as kasina, and the Vanguard Group.

Daugherty is a Certified Financial Planner®, and his academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in finance from Lehigh University and master’s degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He resides in the Phoenixville area with his wife and three children.
