Christmas Tree Lighting Kicks off Victorian Christmas

Hundreds gather at Burke Park to join in the Christmas spirit.

Visitors to Burke Park Friday night might have felt more like they were in a story book, being surrounded by dream-like horse carriage rides, Victorian-dressed couples, Santa and his elf and, of course, a giant Christmas tree.

Victorian Christmas, which has been taking place about 10 years, drew hundreds out for the annual tree lighting Ceremony.

Pat Reeser, president of the Malvern Business and Professional Association, said the event got her in the Christmas spirit.

"I love seeing the tree lit," she said. "And all the families coming together."

Reeser's sister, Sally Cannon of West Chester, said she likes the sense of unity the event creates.

"It's nice to see the whole town come out," she said.

Rose Smith, who dressed in Victorian garb with her husband Ted, said she'd never miss the event.

"Every year it gets better," she said. "I just like to get in the spirit."

The tree lighting was aired live on NBC 10.
