EA Football Coach Fairlie Named Coach of The Year

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Todd Fairlie, a 2002 Marple Newtown High School graduate and current head football coach of the Episcopal Academy Churchmen, was recently named as Coach of the Year by delcofootball.com.

A truly Cinderella story, Fairlie brought the Churchmen from a three-win squad to winning the Inter-Ac league championship, 10-0, according to Delcofootball.com.

It’s the first time Episcopal Academy has had three-straight shutouts since 1963, and first time they started 3-0 since beginning 2008 with a 5-0 start, reported CBS Philly in September.

Fairlie replaced Bill Gallagher as head football coach of Episcopal Academy, who resigned in November 2010 after six years at the Inter-Ac prep school. Fairlie was one of Gallagher's assistant coaches for two years.

After playing football for Widener University, Fairlie played professional lacrosse, which he also played in high school and at Widener. In an interview with Marple Newtown Patch in 2010, Fairlie said he enjoyed traveling across the nation and reaching the professional level. He played professionally in 2007 and 2008 for several teams but his last stint was for Major League Lacrosse team the San Francisco Dragons.

: "Everyday I'll have a plan with a structured and organized game plan," Fairlie
said optimistically for the following season. "During the summer, we'll hit the ground running and start to build that team aspect."
