Craigslist Scam Attempted On Newtown Resident, Police Say

July 29
A resident of Newtown came to police headquarters at approximately 1:30 pm to report that he had posted an item for sale on Craigslist. The resident explained to the officer that he had received an email from a person who said he wanted to purchase the item and then sent a check for $1,000 for the item that was priced at $150. The resident quickly realized that he was involved in a potentially fraudulent transaction. The check was uncashed and the resident advised the sender that the item was no longer for sale and that a police report had been filed. The resident didn’t suffer any financial loss.

July 30
A resident of Newtown Township came to police headquarters to report that he unknowingly got involved in a secret shopper Scam and lost approximately $3,000 before he was notified by his bank that he was a victim of this common scam. The victim explained that he was instructed to shop certain venues and report on the customer service. The agency then sends you a sum of money with instructions to keep a portion and return the balance. The victim learned that the original checks he received didn’t clear due to the lack of funds, but the checks he sent in return were cashed.

August 1
At approximately 8:45 pm police stopped a motorist on Richboro Road due to an expired registration on the vehicle. At the stop the driver was identified as 55-year-old Igor Antonyak of Cottonwood Drive in Northampton Township. He was subsequently arrested for D.U.I. He was transported to Saint Mary Medical Center, where he submitted a blood draw which will be sent to the Bucks County Crime Lab for analysis. Antonyak was transported to his home and released, charges are pending the lab results.
