Police Investigating Two Suspected Burglaries

Police are investigating two suspected residential burglaries that were reported in Wrightstown last week.

Last Tuesday evening at 5 p.m., a resident of the Wrenwood Way neighborhood in Wrightstown called to report of a burglary at her home.

Police reported the victim told responding officers that she was away from the house for about four hours and returned home to find a window open and several items missing from the house. The resident claims the window was closed when she left the home.

About 48 hours later, a Durham Road resident called police to report his laptop computer and several other items were gone from his home, police said.

The resident said he was away from his home in the 800 block of Durham Road for most of Thursday and returned home to discover his belongings gone, police said.

Newtown Township police, who patrol Wrightstown Township, continue to investigate the burglaries.

The Insurance Information Network of California recommends the following tips to help protect your home from a would be burglar:

  • “Case” your home the way a burglar might and look for easy entrance points.
  • Protect your doors with solid locks — 80 percent of break-ins are through a door.
  • Consider a home security system that will sound an alarm if triggered. Leave blinds and curtains in their normal position.
  • Don’t allow trees and shrubs to conceal doors and never hide your keys outside.
  • Use automatic timers for lights, radios and televisions to make the home appear “lived in.” Lower the sound on your telephone ringer and answering machine.
  • Never announce your vacation plans via social networks.
