Students, Driver Forced To Flee Burning Council Rock School Bus

During the incident in Wrightstown, police said the students were safely evacuated and transported by a secondary bus to their destination.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A fire aboard a Council Rock school bus forced the evacuation of 36 students and the driver Friday morning on Penns Park Road not far from the Wrightstown Elementary School in Wrightstown.

Firefighters from the Lingohocken Fire Company, Newtown Fire Rescue, and the Newtown Township Police Department responded to the scene just before 9 a.m. where they found the bus engulfed in smoke and flames and everyone evacuated.

The firefighters used hose lines to quickly knock down the flames.

Police said there were no injuries and the students were transported by a secondary bus to their destination.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lingohocken Fire Department and the
Newtown Township Police Department.

An hour earlier, police and fire officials responded to the St. Andrew Catholic Education Center on Wrights Road in Newtown Township for a vehicle fire in the school's parking lot.

The vehicle was unoccupied at the time and there were no injuries or any other property damage as a result of the incident, police said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Newtown Fire Rescue and the Newtown Township Police Department.

Police said both incidents do not appear to be suspicious and authorities are investigating to ensure no criminal acts were involved.
