The Eagles traveled up to Blue Mountain High School on Saturday. Jan. 07, and wrestled five matches in about five hours. In the end, they brought home seven gold medals.
During the fast paced event, junior Zack Fuentes (113) recorded his 100th career victory – a milestone most wrestlers hope to achieve by the end of their high school careers. A short time later, senior Shane Springer (170) recorded his 150th career victory. It was by fall – the 112th of his career. The PIAA State Record for falls is 127 held by Matt Yocco.
Taking home gold medals for the Eagles were Zack Fuentes (113), Mike Springer (138), Brett Harner (160), Shane Springer (170), Tyler Letrinko (182), Larry Gordon (195) and Jesse “The Body” Prante (220). All were 5-0 on the day.
Also attending the meet were Kelvin Howard (120) and Rasheed Lusane (285), who both placed third at 3-2; Dan “Rush” Linbauan (126); Nick Saldano (132); Joe Rowland (145) and Austin Fitzsimmons (152).
Next up for the Eagles is “Senior Night” on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012 at . The opponent will be Upper Moreland and the prize will be the Suburban One American League Title. Junior Varsity will begin at 6 p.m. and Varsity activities are set to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are cheap so come early to get a good seat. As usual, Franzone's Pizza will be featured at the snack stand.
This weekend the Eagles will travel to Council Rock South for the very tough “Escape The Rock” tournament. Wrestling begins Friday, Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. Saturday wrestling begins at 10 a.m. and the finals are slated for Saturday evening.
