UPDATE: [9 a.m.] Norristown Police Detective Lt. Michael Crescitelli confirmed that a 21-year-old black male was shot and killed on the 600 block of Green Street just after 2 a.m. on Saturday morning, Oct. 20. The young man, whose identity is being withheld until his family can be contacted, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from a gunshot wound to the head.

At this time, police have no suspects in the crime and only a description of a black male in a black hoody as a possible shooter.

UPDATE: [7:50 a.m.] Police are still investigating the scene of an early morning shooting that claimed the life of one young man who's identity is being withheld.

According to neighbors in the 600 block of Green Street, gun fire rang out sometime in the early hours this morning [reported times vary] and when residents came out to investigate, the 21-year-old could be seen lying in the street in a pool of blood. Nearby neighbors reported hearing at least four gunshots and seeing several people running east on Chestnut Street towards Arch Street just after hearing the shots.

Within minutes, police had reportedly closed down Green Street between Chestnut and Marshall streets to conduct a crime scene investigation.

One neighbor who claimed to know the young man told Norristown Patch the victim had been at a nearby party earlier in the evening.

The Breaking News Network and @MontcoAlerts are reporting an early morning shooting in the 600 block of Green Street that reportedly took the life of a young man.

Details are few, but according to reports, a 21-year-old male was transported by medevac from the scene sometime around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20. The male was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with a gunshot wound to the head and was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival. 

Norristown Police were unable to comment on whether or not a suspect is in custody.
