A recent East Norriton ‘mountain lion’ scare has led authorities to the conclusion that the supposed big cat is actually a large dog.
In the wake of local, conflicting reports of some sort of large cat off of the area of East Johnson Hwy. and Rahway Ave., East Norriton police and the Pennsylvania Game Commission searched that area.
The Game Commission, after examining the prints, determined on Saturday that they came from a large dog, say East Norriton police.
Police had followed the tracks through the neighborhood and woods and reached out to the Game Commission and other wildlife identification experts. The Elmwood Park Zoo was called and it was confirmed that no animals had escaped, say police.
The Game Commission ruled out other types of cats, as well. Not only were the tracks determined to have been made by a dog, there was no evidence that indicated a mountain lion’s presence, such as a deer carcass, say police.
