Report: Police Supposedly Stop a Robbery in Progress

On Dec. 30 around 4:15 p.m. a Norristown police officer received information about a potential burglary that was in progress, and police went to the 600 block of Haws Avenue to investigate that was in progress.

An informant told police that an African American man in a white shirt was taking items out of a third-story window of a building on the block, and that the male had also been on the roof of the building, according to a Norristown police report.

An officer arrived and spoke to the informant nearby, who directed the officer to where the man had been seen. The officer saw the subject throw something blue from the roof of a property that was attached to the property that the officer had originally been concerned about, to the original property that was first of concern, say police.

The officer then saw the subject climb to a third floor window of the second property.

The subject, later identified as Jaquan Boone, is an 18-year-old Norristown resident, according to court documents.

Two officers went into the original property through the back door, which was not locked, and found no people inside. One of the officers went onto the roof and saw a 32-inch Sylvania flat screen television and two Nintendo Wiis, one red and one blue.

The officers had contact at the front door of the second property and went inside. A third officer entered and they were able to detain an African American man in a white shirt, Boone, who the informant confirmed was the man seen earlier.

Boone was taken into police custody and went to the police station.

The person who is renting the property that was first at issue identified the items found as belonging to her. She said that she does not know Boone and that no one has permission to come to the property and take items.

According to online documents Boone faces charges of burglary, receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking and criminal trespass.
