As of August 2012, there were fewer car crashes year-to-date compared to 2011 in Northampton Township, according to traffic crash data released from the township police department.

There were 14 less crashes year-to-date, according to information provided by Police Chief Barry Pilla.

It's "not a lot, but a start," he said.

Though a little more than 5 inches of rain fell in August—and more than 1 inch on Aug. 10—no traffic crashes were a result of the weather, the data showed. Additionally, no injury crashes were reported in August, and no fatal crashes too place.

The police department has been conducting several Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Campaigns, one of which was completed in August covering the 2nd Street Pike corridor.
