In comparison, Ross police stopped a total of five drivers for DUI during the entire month of January.
"Our patrol shifts pay special attention to days that historically have a higher incidence of DUI offenses and other drug/alcohol related crimes," said Ross Detective Brian Kohlhepp. "This includes holidays, as well as major sporting events to include the Super Bowl in particular."
It was Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011 when Brett Saltrick, then 21, of Tarentum was driving drunk when he lost control of his vehicle, and struck another headed in the opposite way, while driving along Thompson Run Road.
Saltrick's girlfriend, Bryanna Riedel, 21, of Wheeling, was critically injured in the accident and died two days later.
Saltrick was convicted of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and sentenced to 12-24 months in a state prison.
