"Domestic disturbance" at New Hanover Township home turns fatal

DA: Man Fires at Cop, Kills Self

A New Hanover man is dead following a confrontation with New Hanover Township Police late Saturday night.

Daniel Jobson, 56, shot himself in the head after allegedly firing at an officer who had responded to a 9-1-1 call in the area, according to a press release issued by New Hanover Township Police Chief Kevin McKeon and Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman.

According to authorities, the officer responded to a 9-1-1 call at a residence on Colflesh Road at 10:32 p.m. Saturday and saw a Mercedes SUV "fleeing" from the driveway of 2327 Colflesh Road. A pursuit in which the vehicle's operator drove "erratically" eventually led back to the home where the pursuit had begun, and the operator, later identified as Jobson, exited the vehicle.

The unidentified New Hanover officer pursued Jobson on foot through the garage at 2327 Colflesh Road and into a second floor stairway, authorities said. Jobson allegedly fired a shot at the officer as the latter approached the top of the stairway, then "barricaded himself inside a bedroom."

Authorities said the officer took "a position of cover" on the stairway, then heard a second gunshot inside the bedroom, where Jobson was later found dead with a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities said nobody else was in the residence at the time of the incident.

Montgomery County Property Records indicate the home has been owned since 1999 by Daniel G. and Theresa L. Jobson.

Authorities said they recovered a Glock 9-millimeter pistol and two spent shell casings near Jobson's body.

Earlier in the evening, authorities said, Jobson had been involved in an unspecified domestic disturbance at the residence.
