Nearby: Learn How to Preserve Your Harvest

The Scott Conservancy is sponsoring a community education program of “Preserving the Harvest” on July 26 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Lodge in Scott Park.

The cost to attend the seminar is $5 and will include the Allegheny County Penn State Master Gardeners presenting “Preserving the Harvest” during its continuing series of educational classes.

Part of the seminar will include teaching how to choose the right plant varieties to preserve. It will also show how to preserve your harvest.

“Come to this class and learn the basics of canning, drying and freezing,” the Conservancy said in a press release. “Preserving is easy, fun, and satisfying. Whether it is your own harvest or a purchased harvest from the local farmer's market, you can learn how to preserve the bounty for the best tasting foods throughout the year.”

Soil test kits will be available for purchase that evening and free take-home literature will be on hand covering some general topics of interest such as edible landscaping, lawn management, composting and native pollinators. The evening is tailored to adults.

Registration is requested so that adequate seating can be provided. Anyone interested in attending is asked to email scottconservepa @yahoo.com or call 412-788-1361.

Please supply your name and contact information, which includes email address or telephone number. The $5 fee will be collected at the door.
