The sixth annual Soup and Stroll will be held from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.

The Peters Creek Historical Society is hosting the event at the Enoch Wright House and Museum of Westward Expansion, 815 Venetia Rd., Peters Township.

Featured along with homemade soups, breads and desserts will be numerous activities that evoke Christmases past.

In the 18th-century log house on the Wright House property, professional re-enactors will prepare authentic Colonial foods for sampling, including hunter’s stew, soft cheeses, homemade hearth breads and period libations. The re-enactors will share their expertise and stories about Colonial life.

Guests are invited to stroll both floors of the museum, where more re-enactors  will help create an early American Christmas atmosphere.  Live music will be playing throughout the event, with a bagpiper and weaver arriving about 4 p.m.

Father Christmas, in his green robe and red hooded overcoat, will be on hand to give away treats and provide for photo opportunities. A special display of antique holiday postcards from a private collection will enhance the holiday spirit in the second-floor costume room.

Candlewicking will be displayed in the upstairs hallway. Handmade natural goat’s-milk soaps will be available as gift items.

In the Charity Wright Room, visitors will be able to enjoy a timeless holiday experience as professional storyteller Linda Nickles will relate historical holiday tales from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Also, the museum’s mining room will be staffed by knowledgeable historical society members to relate the history of one of the region’s chief occupations in its formative years.

Takeout food will be available during Soup and Stroll. Admission tickets at door only. For more information, call 724-941-5710 or visit www.peterscreekhs.org.

The Wright House, built 1815-16, is a National Historic Landmark and a recipient of the Western Pennsylvania Horticultural Society beautification award. Its landscaped grounds, including a butterfly and authentic herb garden, are tended by Giant Oaks Garden Club of Peters Township.

Peters Creek Historical Society is a non-profit group relying solely on donations and fundraising to maintain the house and museum.
