This week’s Great Escape takes us to the . In 2010, more than 20,000 participants took part in CRC programs and activities. Chances are you were one of those people.

So, you probably already know about some of the spectacular summer activities slated to occur over the coming months. But, just in case you don’t, you’ll want to take note of the following annual and seasonal events.

On June 11, wake up at the crack of dawn, grab your running shoes and hit the CRC for the annual . The race begins at 9 a.m., with on-site registration from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m.—though, you may want to pre-register online or at the CRC so you can squeeze in a little more rest or warm-up time.

The registration fee is $20 before June 1, and $25 after June 1. Proceeds benefit the Peters Cross Country Team.

This year marks the township’s , which is on the calendar for June 25. Come out to Peterswood Park between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to eat, play and meet members of the local business community.

Return to Peterswood Park by 9:25 p.m. that night to finish your day with a bang. Catch an incredible show by Pyrotecnico.

Take your tiny tots, ages 3 to 5, to the CRC for a fun and educational nature walk on June 30. The costs $5 for members ($7 for non-members), and includes kid-friendly instruction on the life and anatomy of the butterfly, a walk and a craft.

Another event your young child is sure to love is Touch-a-Truck at Peterswood Park on July 9. Mom and dad will likely like it, too. Vehicle enthusiasts of all types and ages will enjoy getting up close and personal with many different types of trucks, including big rigs, construction vehicles and public safety vehicles.

The folks at the CRC said you’ll definitely want to bring a camera to this event!

In addition to outdoor events that are ideal for youngsters, the CRC offers summer events with senior citizens in mind. One day during each summer month, if weather permits, the Peters Township Satellite Center holds an outdoor Senior Picnic from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by an hour-long guest speaker presentation.

The Senior Picnics are free to persons 55 and older. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish to contribute to the meal.

The Senior Picnic on June 8 will be held with a tailgate theme. Seniors can sport their favorite team colors as they celebrate the kick-off of summer. On July 13, guest speaker Dr. Micucci of D & M Chiropractic Clinic will discuss “Understanding and Treating Arthritis.”
