For the past few months, I've been following a low-acid diet to help curb some wicked heartburn issues—which means cutting out tomatoes and citrus fruits, greasy, high-fat foods, and anything with caffeine.
If you're dealing with those issues, too, you know it can be really hard to find great-tasting foods—especially snacks—that don't set off your symptoms.
I've been altering recipes and experimenting with my own a lot lately so I can snack safely. Here's a "salsa" recipe I've been playing around with, and this mix is always changing.
Feel free to replace what you don't like and let me know if you added something else that works!
What I use (amount to taste):
- Black beans
- Lemon, lime or pineapple juice for flavor
What you do:
Chop up the larger items and mix the ingredients, then sprinkle juice over the mix at the end for a little kick. Citrus juices are acidic, so you may want to cut them out altogether.
I usually eat this with wheat crackers or corn chips. Enjoy!
