Broad Street Underground Fire: 60 People Evacuated

PHILADELPHIA, PA — An underground fire along Broad Street in Philadelphia Tuesday led to dozens of people being evacuated and large response from area firefighters and police, according to authorities and media reports.

The incident began before 8 a.m. around 5800 North Broad Street, in the city's Ogontz neighborhood.

Fire officials said the fire began in the trash chute of a 10-story high rise in the area.

Multiple manhole covers were blown off into the street, according to 6ABC.

The outlet noted that around 50 to 60 people had been evacuated.
