Erratic Driving Leads to Drug Arrest for Borough Man

A 26-year-old Phoenixville man was arrested on September 2 after a traffic stop turned up marijuana in his car, are reporting.

Matthew Scott Herner was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to keep right, and disorderly conduct stemming from the incident.

According to court documents, on September 2 at 12:47 a.m. a blue Mazda 3 was pulled over at the intersection on the 200 block of Church Street for driving erratically. When the arresting officer spoke with Herner, the driver of the vehicle, he detected an odor of marijuana.

The officer asked Herner where the marijuana was, and he said it belonged to his passenger. The officer removed him from the vehicle and repeated the question. At this point, Herner admitted to having a pipe in his center console.

The officer located the pipe and found it was packed with a leafy green substance, which laboratory testing later verified was marijuana.

Herner, who had a previous drug charge in 2006, was arrested, processed, and released. He faces preliminary hearing on October 11.
