Vandal Ruins Fresh Concrete, Police Say

A 46-year-old Phoenixville man was charged on Wednesday after police say he deliberately walked through freshly poured concrete on Bridge Street, necessitating thousands of dollars in repairs.

At 7:45 a.m. on April 10, Phoenixville Police responded to a criminal mischief complaint at the Shell station at 508 Bridge St. The foreman of a construction company that was pouring a new sidewalk in front of the station told police that someone had walked around the barricades and through the fresh concrete the previous evening, leaving footprints, police say. It will cost roughly $2,500 to fix the concrete, according to an estimate Phoenixville Police procured.

Police tracked down and spoke with a witness to the crime. According to court documents, the witness, a local business owner, told police he saw the defendant walking around in the concrete. He said he recognized the man from an altercation that took place at this store the previous week.

The defendant faces charges of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. His preliminary hearing is yet to be scheduled.
