Police: Drunk Man Crashed Car, Fled Scene

A Norristown man was arrested in Schuylkill Township last week after he crashed his car and fled the scene of the crime, all while intoxicated, Schuylkill Township Police are reporting.

Bruce Charles Long lll stands charged with three counts of DUI, careless driving, reckless driving, accident involving damaged to attended vehicle/property, and failure to stop and render aid after the alleged September 26 incident.

According to court documents, on September 26 at 12:24 a.m., a Schuylkill Township officer was dispatched to the corner of State Road and Hallowell Road, where a silver convertible reportedly crashed into a fence before pulling away.

Once on the scene, the officer observed no damage to the fence, but saw the street sign for the intersection was toppled, tire marks on the grass, and noted numerous car parts strewn about, including part of a bumper, headlight pieces, and a coil spring.

Shortly thereafter, a Phoenixville officer indicated that he had stopped the suspected vehicle on Nutt Road. When the Schuylkill officer arrived on Nutt, he noted a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser with heavy front end damage and the vehicle’s driver, Long, sitting on the curb.

Long, the officer wrote in the affidavit, had red, glassy eyes and was “twitchy.” When asked if he had had anything to drink, Long said he had one “Red Bull and vodka” earlier in the evening.

Long then consented to three field sobriety tests and failed each of them. He was placed under arrest for DUI and, after a trip to Phoenixville Hospital for a blood draw, taken to the Schuylkill Township Police Department, where he was released to his uncle.

Bruce Long lll faces preliminary hearing on November 8.
