Police: Man Grabbed Girlfriend by Neck, Dragged Her Down Street

A Phoenixville man was arrested on Friday night after he assaulted his girlfriend, at one point dragging her down the street by her neck, Phoenixville Police are reporting.

Lester Eugene Fortson, 49, faces charges of simple assault, false imprisonment, public drunkenness, and harassment stemming from the September 28 incident.

According to court documents, Fortson and his girlfriend got in an argument that evening at 10:14 p.m. that culminated with his dragging her off the porch by the neck, then, according to both his girlfriend and a witness, continued to drag her down the 200 block of Morgan Street.

When police arrived on the scene, they observed that Fortson—who’s twice previously been charged with felony assault in Phoenixville—appeared to be intoxicated.

Fortson was arraigned that morning and released from Chester County Prison after posting $2,500 bail. He faces preliminary hearing on October 4.
