'Dream Big' at Plum, Oakmont Libraries This Summer

Summer is upon us, and the community libraries are hoping to keep children engaged in reading.

This year's summer reading program theme is "Dream Big—Read!" and have plenty of programs in store for children this year.

Registration for summer reading in Plum begins on Monday, June 11. In Oakmont, it begins June 16.

To register, visit www.oakmontlibrary.org or www.plumlibrary.org; or visit the libraries in person. There is no cost to participate in summer reading.

Here's a look at some of the special events at each library. Calendars have been uploaded to the media section of this article for a complete look.

Plum Library

The Groove Club will be at the library Tuesday, June 12, at 6:30 p.m. with "A Musical Slumber Party." Children of all ages are invited to wear their jammies, bring their favorite stuffed friend and get funky.

Tales with Teachers will be held Thursday and Friday mornings at 10 a.m., and there will be plenty of storytimes throughout the summer months.

Oakmont Library

There will be a Summer Reading Kickoff on Saturday, June 16. KDKA weather man Dennis Bowman will visit the library from 1 to 2 p.m.

Afternoon Adventures will be held every Tuesday at 2 p.m. for children ages 6 to 12. Every session includes a craft, snack, books, short DVDs, coloring sheets and more.

Other activities include Summer Buddies—play, circle time, story and crafts—every Wednesday and Friday; jewelry and mad science workshops, as well as a finale party.
