Philly Takes Down Bill Cosby Mural Amid Sex Assault Allegations

Days prior to its removal, the mural featuring Bill Cosby was tagged with graffiti saying 'rapist' and 'dude with ludes.'

North Broad Street and Glenwood Avenue in Philadelphia once featured larger-than-life images of Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Desmond Tutu and Bill Cosby.

But that visual is gone, and in its place is nothing but a blank, white space.

The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program painted over the work this week, as more details emerge about allegations Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted woman, according to multiple reports.

The fatherhood-themed work, located in North Philadelphia, was in disrepair and was slated for removal. But the task was fast-tracked following revelations about the comedian included in a deposition released earlier this month, the Inquirer reported.

Days prior to its removal, the mural was tagged with graffiti saying “rapist” and “dude with ludes,” the City Paper reported.

According to a deposition released this month, the married father of five acknowledged sedating woman with Quaaludes prior to sex, which he says was consensual, the New York Times first reported.

The deposition was unsealed as part of a lawsuit by Andrea Constand, who accused Mr. Cosby of drugging and molesting her in the 2005 civil case.

The mural was painted in 2000 and renovated in 2008, the Inquirer reported.

Art News reported the city’s Mural Arts Program has plans to repaint a similar image, without Cosby, at another location.
