Spring Closet Cleaning

We offer tips to keep closets organized and clutter-free this season.

Spring Closet Cleaning

Breathe a sigh of relief–it is officially spring, and time to put a long winter full of snow and ice behind us.

While we wait for spring to arrive in full force, it's time to tackle that one task that hangs over our heads each April. No, not taxes. I'm talking about yearly spring cleaning.

In the season of renewal, the urge to freshen up a living space is hard to deny. One of the best, most fun places to start is in the closet. While the task of rooting through a jam-packed closet doesn't sound like the most fun way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon, the payoff is well worth the effort.

Keeping an organized closet is important for many reasons. It looks better, for one, and it is much quicker and easier to put outfits together when your wardrobe is accessible and easy to navigate. Reward a long day of cleaning with some of the many efficient and eye-pleasing storage items in one of Manayunk's many home decor shops.

For some truly unique closet furnishings, check out on Main Street. They carry brightly colored, vintage-looking containers that would make great decorative closet storage bins. The store also carries elegant silver trays that are useful to store jewelry and other accessories on a bureau.

Further down Main Street at , you can find more one-of-a-kind bureaus with a modern yet worn appearance that would add character to any closet. The showroom items are the types of pieces that can’t be found everywhere, so if any part of your home needs sprucing, Digs and Dwelling are great places to start.

Main Street also offers some more familiar shops, like the classic home decor giant . They carry a huge selection of decorative baskets that can store anything from laundry to linens to magazines. If your jewelry needs a place to live, Pottery Barn offers tons of jewelry box styles that double as storage and decorative items.

on Main Street is also stocked with tons of pieces designed to keep closets in line. They sell lots of antique-looking hooks and coat hangers, in addition to shelving units that can be installed on walls.

My favorite items are the wooden baskets that can be used to store anything from shoes to purses to accessories. Having a designated place for certain items makes it easier to locate a favorite hat or specific pair of shoes as you're running out the door.

While the task of cleaning out your closet isn’t the most thrilling spring event, adding some helpful storage items can keep your wardrobe organized and accessible. Think of all the time that can be saved when the location of your blue platform sandals is always within reach.
