Police Trace Child Pornography to Kennedy Township Man

A Kennedy Township man is slated to face a preliminary hearing in Coraopolis on charges he stored pornographic videos and images of children on his computer.

Jeffrey Guzzo, 47, of Helen Street, is charged with disseminating child pornography, possession of child pornography and possession of obscene and other sexual materials, according to court records.

In a criminal complaint, Moon Police Officer Reginald Humbert wrote he was conducting a investigation in November into the dissemination of online child pornography.

Humbert located an Internet protocol address, later identified as belonging to Guzzo, that was sharing pornographic material via the BitTorrent file sharing network.

Police were able to download images shared through the IP address, discovering three videos and 267 pornographic images of girls between the ages of 10 and 13, according to the complaint.

That same day, Humbert discovered an additional torrent which lead to a file containing one pornographic image and eight videos depicting children.

A torrent is a file used for peer-to-peer sharing on the BitTorrent network.

Police submitted a court order to Verizon Internet Services for information on the subscriber at the IP in question, which was traced to Guzzo.

On Nov. 28, police executed a search warrant at Guzzo's Helen Street home. Police seized laptops, DVDs, and BluRay discs, among other items from the residence.

In a questionnaire provided by police, Guzzo admitted to storing and sharing child pornography on his personal computers, writing that "hundreds, possibly a thousand" images and videos were in his possession, according to the complaint.

Guzzo, who said in the questionnaire that he has never had sexual contact with a minor and has not produced child pornography himself, said he burns files to DVDs and BluRay discs when his computer drives become full.

Police said numerous files containing adult and child pornography were found on the items seized, according to the complaint.

Charges against Guzzo were filed on Jan. 18. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 5 in Coraopolis District Court.
