Summertime Brings New Opportunities for Participation in Litter Photo Contest
Media, PA—With summer’s relaxed schedules, PRC invites Pennsylvanians to grab a camera or mobile device and photograph the worst—or most unusual—examples of litter in their communities. The Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) is accepting entries for its annual Gene Capaldi Lens on Litter Photo Contest through October 31, 2026.
Entries should raise awareness of how litter threatens public health and safety, scenic beauty, property values, the environment, and pets or wildlife and are judged on: anti-litter message, originality, photographic technique, quality of photo, originality of title and severity of the litter.
Categories and prizes: First-, second-, and third-place prizes will be awarded in four categories—Student (through 12th grade), Adult, Before &amp; After Student (through 12th grade), and Before &amp; After Adult. Prizes are $500 (first), $250 (second), and $100 (third).
To qualify for the Before &amp; After categories, sponsored by Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, cleanup efforts must be registered with Keep PA Beautiful’s Pick-Up PA Program: <a href="https://www.keeppabeautiful.org/programs/pick-up-pa/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.keeppabeautiful.org/programs/pick-up-pa/</a>.
Entry requirements: Each person may submit up to five photos (no smaller than 4×6 and no larger than 8×10). Each entry must include: entrant’s name, address, telephone number, email address, title given to photo, location of litter site and how you learned about the contest. Students only: age, grade, and school name. Entries submitted without all required information will be disqualified.

<h1>Lens on Litter Contest</h1>
Since 1984, PRC has sponsored an annual Gene Capaldi Lens on Litter Photo contest, not to glorify litter but to bring attention to the litter problem in communities across Pennsylvania. Exposure leads to prevention!
Participants from across the state have submitted thousands of photos over the years. Contestants are eligible for monetary prizes up to $500. All submitted photos may be used by PRC and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful at their discretion.
Contest dates run from January 1 to October 31 each year.
NOTE: A new BEFORE &amp; AFTER category — sponsored by <a href="https://www.keeppabeautiful.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful</a> — has been added to the contest. This class will run for 6 sessions over the course of 7 weeks on Mondays from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. The focus of this class will be on teaching song melodies to beginners, such as Ode To Joy by Beethoven and Happy Birthday. Each week I will introduce slightly more complicated melodies that will help develop students' ability to play single note melodies on the guitar.
