Mae Elizabeth Herber, 93: 'She Lived Until She Died'

Mae Elizabeth Herber, 93, died Friday.

Mae Elizabeth Herber, 93: 'She Lived Until She Died'

Mae Elizabeth (Greenamoyer) Herber, 93, passed away peacefully early Friday morning on January 3, 2013.

Born on November 13, 1920, in Schoenersville PA, she was the daughter of the late Walter J and Florence E (Smith) Greenamoyer.

She was predeceased by her husband, Warren Charles Herber who died in October of 2007.

Mae graduated from Catasauqua High School, class of 1939.  She then began working as a lab technician for the Lehigh Valley Dairy where she eventually met her husband-to-be through a mutual friend.

They married in 1943 while Warren was on a furlough from the Army during World War II and spent a happy 64 years together.

Mae took great pride in being a homemaker.  She was a meticulous housekeeper, an excellent baker and cook and a dedicated gardener of flowers and vegetables and basically enjoyed beautifying her home and the landscape.

No one ever left Mae’s kitchen without being offered a meal or a “sweet”.  Her grandchildren will always remember the yearly “Christmas cookie bake-off” on the day after Thanksgiving.

Friends and family will always remember her love for playing bridge and pinochle; keeping decks of cards close at hand at all times; just in case there was an opportunity to play cards.

Mae was a dedicated member of Ziegels United Church of Christ in Breinigsville and a 65 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star #298.

“She lived until she died”!  She had a zest for life and a love for family and friends.  Her message to all was straight forward and sincere…She said “I know you will cry when I die; I know than you will miss me; but promise me that you will not spend much time focusing on the sadness of my death but rather remember the wonderful life I have lived.”

Mourning her passing but left to celebrate her life is daughter Jane, wife of Thomas Waite of Lemoyne, grandson, Zachary Waite and wife Beth of Mechanicsburg, and granddaughter, Elizabeth and husband Nicholas Facciuolo of Tacoma, WA.

“GG” Mae will also be missed by her three great grands: Makayla Jane, Madilyn June, and Ian Thomas. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Haas, sisters-in-law, Rita and Evelyn Greenamoyer as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers Harold, Robert and Carl.

Services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, January11, at Ziegels U.C.C., 9990 Ziegels Church Rd., Breinigsville with the Rev. Candi Cain-Borgman officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:45 A.M. in the Church.  Interment will be immediately following the service at the church cemetery.
