Parkland Boys Basketball Team Plays For LVC Crown

The Parkland High School varsity boys basketball team will play for the Lehigh Valley Conference championship Friday night.

The Trojans, who boast 17 wins and six losses on the season, will face Liberty High School for the first championship in 11 years of LVC basketball, according to The Morning Call.

Parkland defeated Freedom Wednesday night in overtime to advance to the championship round.

Austin Beidleman, who was recently named a Lehigh Valley Conference All-Star, led the Trojans with 20 points, according to The Express-Times.

Parkland entered the tournament as the number two seed in the tournament.

The Trojans lost their opening game of the regular season and then ventured on an 11-game winning streak.

Parkland played an amazingly tough out-of-conference schedule, including a loss to the powerful Patrick School in the Hoop Group Showcase in February.

However, those type of games are usually a good learning experience for a team that has championship aspirations.

Yet, Parkland sort of limped into the conference playoffs under coach Andy Stephens, with a 5-5 record in their final 10 games.

Whatever the outcome of Friday night's game, the Trojans should garner a high seed for the District 11 tournament, which begins Feb. 20.
