County Proclaims Day in Honor of Teen Basketball Phenomenon

In Bucks County, April 16 is now Kevin Grow Appreciation Day.

Grow, a Bensalem teen with down syndrome, became a national sensation this winter after scoring four three-pointers during his first game appearance.

The Bucks County Commissioners on Wednesday honored the teen with a proclamation declaring April 16 in his honor.

The Bensalem High School senior has become a local legend in a just a few months. As the basketball team’s manager for four years, was given a chance to play during a game in February.

During that game, Grow shocked his teammates and the crowd when he scored four three-pointers in less than two minutes, leading Bensalem to a 64-60 victory over Neshaminy.

A video of that game went viral, getting more than 1.2 million YouTube views. It caught the attention of the national media and the Philadelphia 76ers, which signed him to a ceremonial two-day contract.

Then, the Harlem Globetrotters caught wind of Grow’s story and awarded him a Junior Phenom Award and a chance to play with the team for a night as a three-point specialist.

A Kevin Grow For MVP Facebook page was created in support of his success.
