You enjoy smoking cigarettes, but sometimes the smell is not exactly welcome. Maybe you’re going to a job interview or you’re planning to kiss someone for the first time. How do you hide or mask the smell? Here are a few clever solutions for masking and getting rid of the smell of cigarette smoke.
A Breath of Fresh Air
To get the scent of cigarettes off your breath, brush your teeth immediately after smoking a cigarette. Of course, if you are out and about and don’t have access to a toothbrush or a sink, you can bring some chewing gum with you that will help to clean out your mouth. You could also try chewing on mint leaves, which is a common and effective strategy used in India to freshen the breath.
Another way to hide the smell of cigarettes is to eat something that has a strong odor, such as something with garlic or onions. Of course, then you will have the problem of smelling like garlic and onions, but in some cases that might be more acceptable than smelling like cigarettes.
Wash Your Hands
If you have been smoking, the smell of cigarettes will also be on your hands. You should wash them as thoroughly as possible with a strongly scented soap. If that is not enough to cover up the scent of the cigarettes, you can add hand sanitizer. You could also carry around a small bottle of scented moisturizer that you could apply to your hands to keep them smelling nice.
The juice of an orange also covers up the scent of cigarette smoke quite well. Carry an orange around with you as a snack and after smoking, peel it and eat it. Your fingers and your breath will be fresh as an orange with the juice masking the smell of the cigarettes.
“Get Out of My Hair!”
One of the most annoying things about cigarette smoke is the way that it lingers very strongly in the hair. This is because your hair is porous and it absorbs the particles of smoke and retains them for a long time. The only way to get the smell out of your hair is to take a shower and wash it with a good shampoo. Use coconut shampoo and a scented hair styling product such as scented hair gel.
Be careful when using too many strongly scented products to cover up the scent of your cigarettes. If you overdo it on sprays and perfumes, you could end up having an overpowering scent that people will find equally offensive. You might even cause problems and allergic reactions for people with perfume sensitivities.
Switch to E-Cigarettes
In order to completely avoid that tobacco smell, you could switch to electronic cigarettes. They still deliver a nicotine hit, but they release a water-based vapor that quickly dissipates and doesn’t linger in your clothes and hair — and it doesn’t smell at all! If you don’t want to stink like an ash-tray, they might be your best solution.
