22-Year-Old Chesco Man Arrested For Murder In Broad Daylight: DA

"The good citizens are outraged by a daytime shooting that endangers children."

A 22-year-old Coatesville man has been arrested for the murder of a man on October 3.

Sheron "Ryda" Purnell has been cahrged with first degree murder in shotting death of Kevin Jalbert, the Chester County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.

"This type of violence is inexcusable," said Coatesville Police Chief Jack Lauter. "The good citizens of Coatesville are outraged by a daytime shooting that endangers children."

The incident occurred at around 6:39 p.m. on October 3 near 6th Avenue and Belmont Street, according to a criminal complaint.

Jalbert had allegedly been walking down the street when he came upon a group of juveniles. He yelled at the kids, who walked away from him, the DA's office said.

That's when Purnell arrived and confronted Jalbert, the complaint states. At first they just exchanged words, but then after a time, Purnell pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and shot Jalbert several times, authorities said.

"A significant number" of witnesses saw the shooting and then fled the scene, according to police.

An arrest warrant for Purnell was issued on October 31 after an investigation. He was arrested on November 2. A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
