Borough Council to Discuss Smart Parking Meters

The West Chester Borough Council Parking Committee will discuss a proposal to try parking meters in the borough that would accept credit cards.

Borough Council to Discuss Smart Parking Meters

The first night of West Chester Borough Council Committee meetings is scheduled for Monday.  Here's a quick rundown of some of the major agenda items for the Public Works Committee, the Parks and Recreation Committee and the Parking Committee.

Public Works

The public works committee will once again discuss changing the borough's yard waste disposal procedures.  Currently, the borough's public works building's parking lot has become overrun with refuse from not just the borough but surrounding municipalities.  Public works would like to figure out a way to stop this from happening.  Public works will also be discussing its 2013 budget for the first time.

Parks and Recreation

The parks and recreation committee will also discuss the department's 2013 budget as well as a new program that would promote tobacco free parks in the borough.  The committee pushed this agenda item back from June so that they can make sure they target the right parks.

Besides the 2013 budget, the parking committee will also discuss installing 50 "smart" parking meters in the borough.  The meters would be used on a trial basis for 90 days.  No word yet on where they would be placed, but they will take credit cards.

The borough council committees meet on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 10-11, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at borough hall.  If an agenda item is recommended by the committee it moves to full council where it will be voted on.
