Barrington Woman, 44, Faces DUI Charge

A Barrington woman faces a drunk-driving charge by Barrington police after being stopped on her way home last Monday afternoon, May 7.

Donna J. O’Donnell, 44, of 193 Promenade St., was stopped within sight of her home at around 3:42 pm. She had been visiting a friend on Boyce Avenue, Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said.

Her friend attempted to stop her from leaving the house, LaCross said. When O’Donnell refused, her friend called the police with concern about her safety.

O’Donnell’s vehicle was observed swerving over the roadway as it approached her home, LaCross said. The woman also appeared like she didn’t know what to do when she spotted the police car parked in the street near her home.

Three patrol officers intervened, LaCross said. O’Donnell was described as smelling of alcohol, red-faced, with slurred speech. She failed field sobriety tests, LaCross said. She refused a Breathalyzer test.

Found in her vehicle was an almost-empty 750 ml bottle of vodka and a box of Chardonnay wine, LaCross said. O'Donnell was arrested and taken to the police station, where she was arraigned by a justice of the peace.

O’Donnell placed cash bail provided by a friend, LaCross said. She was released at about 7 pm after sobering up in the police station and with a court date.
