Pop Warner opened its 2012 season on Sunday, Sept. 2. Here is a recap of the Junior Pee Wees opener by Coach Todd Rywolt.
"The Barrington Junior Pee Wees opened the 2012 season with a hard-fought 26-6 loss to a strong Old Rochester Bulldogs team on Sunday, Sept. 2.
"The Eagles were led by quarterback Nick Roach, who did a great job managing the offense and ran the ball for long gains throughout the game. The Barrington ground attack was led by running backs Peter Burgess, Seth Mitchell, Kyle Greenberg, Alexis Malnerich and Will Rywolt.
"Burgess also had an excellent day passing, completing several long passes to Rywolt to put the Eagles in scoring position. A perfectly executed reverse from Burgess to Rywolt resulted in Barrington’s lone touchdown, a speedy 30-yard run.
"Malnerich also played exceptionally well on special teams, fielding two kick returns for long gains. Center Matt Peecher made great shotgun snaps all game long, while tight end Noah Werbel and tackle/running back Ben Silva battled the Bulldog rush.
"Some of the strongest blocking of the day came from the vaunted “Monster Offense” line, anchored by Andrew Prete at center, Logan Graham and Meredith Kaplan at guard, Tim Hoag and Slade Crane at tackles, and Robert Cahill and Marley Karnes at end.
The Eagle defense made many key stops during the game, with great tackles by Foster Egan, Jon Adamson and Martin Agustin, as well as Roach and Mitchell. Tackles Jack Kelleher, Chase White and Sergio DaSilva provided tough defense up the middle.
Barrington’s next game is Saturday, Sept. 8 at Victory Field against the East Bay Warriors.
