Schools Chief Not Just Money Manager

Next Barrington superintendent will influence the intellectual and emotional well-being of children and the perceived value of property.

Schools Chief Not Just Money Manager

Within the next three weeks, the members of the Barrington School Committee will select the individual charged with the responsibility of leading our school system toward world-class standards.

Besides being responsible for overseeing an annual budget of $45,000,000, our new superintendent will become the most influential person in our town in two regards.

The superintendent will have a significant influence on the collective future intellectual, emotional and financial well being of our children, and his/her ability to enhance the perceived value of the school system will have a direct impact on our homeowners' property values

For decades now, Barrington has been recognized as a community that is dedicated to providing the resources necessary to create an environment that allows our children to excel.  While our school system is certainly not the only area in which parents hope their children will succeed, it is the one which consumes the most community based financial resources and is responsible for our children during a large portion of their waking hours.

As our community takes pride in the personal growth and achievements of our children, it is imperative that the school system itself be held to the same commitment to excellence as generations of Barrington parents have expected from their children. At this critical juncture, it is important that leadership play an empowering influence in the school organization, enabling it to break free from self-imposed limitations in order to take a quantum leap towards realizing it’s full potential.

Members of the Barrington community expect excellence from our educational professionals. It is imperative that the system has a leader who possesses the necessary broad-based experience and record of innovation and professional achievement that will not only set a high standard of accountability for the system itself but will inspire the entire community to become actively involved in the creation and implementation of an updated strategic plan for our school system

Our community has all the necessary ingredients; engaged residents [those with and without school children], talented students, dedicated educational professionals and the financial wherewithal to support a high performing school system.

The two remaining ingredients are a leader worthy of being followed and a well-defined mission which can capture our imaginations and galvanize our resolve to reassert our position as the preeminent educational system in Rhode Island and one of the finest in New England.

I encourage all residents to come and observe as the school committee members publicly interview the four final candidates on March 26, 27, 28, 29.

Michael Genetti, 17 Paquin Road, member of Superintendent Search Committee
