Here are some things you should know about today in Bristol and Warren: 

  • Partly cloudy and a bit warmer with temperatures reaching 50 degrees.
  • Learn how to get organized for the holidays at the “Weekly Brown Bag Lunch” hosted by W.E.B.O.N.D (Women's Empowerment and Business Owners Networking Development) at the East Bay Chamber of Commerce, 16 Cutler St., Warren. Professional organizer Lisa Griffith of The Organized Way of Barrington will lead the session from noon to 1 pm. Admission is $5 weekly. 
  • Ray Rickman, president of the Rickman Group, a former state legislator, and former president of the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society, gives a talk at 4:30 pm in the Roger Williams University library on the founding of Providence as a city after race riots in the early 1800s. Titled “How Providence Became a City Because of the Hardscrabble and Snowtown Race Riots of 1824 and 1831,” the talk will address the confluence of class and race in early America. The riots convinced the people of Providence to  demand the creation of a city government with strong police powers. The talk is part of the Mary Tefft White Series in the RWU library.
  • The Bristol Cemetery Commission meets at 4:30 pm in the Rogers Free Library, 525 Hope St.
  • Literacy Volunteers of the East Bay gather at 6:30 pm in the Quiet Study Room of the Rogers Free Library, 525 Hope St.
