The Warren Town Meeting scheduled for Monday on the sale of Main Street School has been postposed.
The town annouced the cancelation on its website Sunday afternoon, blaming expected tropical storm conditions as Hurricane Sandy nears. The Town Meeting will be recheduled at a later date, the town announced.
Warren Town Hall will also be closed Monday as town departments prepare for the storm, the announcement read. They have reviewed Emergency Operations Plans and will continue to monitor the progress of Hurricane Sandy through Tuesday.
The Town’s Director of Emergency Management recommends residents prepare 72 hours of supplies such as prescription medications, food, water, batteries and flashlights, and a first aid kit. Residents who are on home oxygen or other medical assistance which requires electricity are urged to register that fact with the Fire Chief’s Office and/or the Police Department Dispatcher at 401-245-1311 or 401-245-7600.
Residents are urged not to touch downed power lines or attempt to cross high water. Those with generators are reminded never to use a generator indoors, even in a garage. They must be in a well-ventilated area.
