At Tuesday night's meeting, School Committee members and school officials discussed plans for the upcoming professional development day scheduled for Oct. 18.
District teachers will spend the day at Coventry High School focusing on the new teacher evaluation system and school-based professional development. School-Related Personnel (SRP) and Support Staff will be stationed at Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School and will focus on customer service, CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, de-escalation training, special education regulations and confidentiality.
During the afternoon, SRP and Support Staff employees will also be recognized as part of Coventry Public Schools Support Staff Appreciation Week, during the week of Oct. 15. SRP employees include custodians, maintenance workers, clerks, grounds keepers and teaching assistants.
Superintendent Michael Almeida will speak at a luncheon planned for the employees and express the district's appreciation for their hard work.
At Tuesday's meeting, a proclamation was read and signed into record by School Committee members recognizing the efforts of support staff employees and acknowledging the week of appreciation.
"The SRP unit here in the district works very hard on the upkeep of our buildings and the employees go above and beyond to support the administration in the system," said Almeida. "We could not possibly do what we do on a daily basis without them."
