Woman Charged With Embezzling From Boy Scout Troop

More than $8,000 was embezzled by Troop 1 of Coventry's Treasurer, Katherine Valenti.

Woman Charged With Embezzling From Boy Scout Troop

On May 29, 2013 the Coventry Police Department took a report of a possible embezzlement from Coventry Boy Scout Troop #1 which operates out of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Coventry.

According to Coventry Police Lt. John Shields, Committee Chairman J. Rockne Starks recently realized that the balance of Troop 1’s checking account was unusually low. Starks requested a printout of transactions over the past year and determined that Treasurer Katherine Valenti had written nine checks out to cash and then cashed them herself. The checks totaled just over $8,000.

Valenti, 54, of 34 New London Ave., West Warwick, had already paid back some of the embezzled money before her crime was detected.

Valenti was arrested by Coventry police on May 30 charged with nine counts of embezzlement. She was issued a District Court summons with a court date of June 12, 2013.
