Two players are out with broken bones. Coach Craig Barbarino was hit by a baseball above the eye, sending him to the emergency room to get 14 stitches.

But that hasn't stopped the CLCF 8U team from tearing up the field at the 2012 Christopher Andreozzi Memorial Tournament. In fact, based on how the pitchers and batters are on fire so far, the setbacks haven't even caused them to blink an eye.

The team has earned a spot in the quarterfinals tomorrow (Aug. 6) and has scored 80 runs in five games, winning handily against both Darlington National and American teams, Fairlawn, Pineview and Riverside. Each game was called in four innings due to the mercy rule and CLCF gave up just seven runs in all.

The team is riding high on the success of winning the 2012 Dighton Baseball Battle for the Banner 8U Championship and finishing second in the 2012 Rehoboth 2012 Summer Slam. And they still had a chance to win the Summer Slam — the final game was called after three innings due to rain.

The Andreozzi tournament is being played in Slater Park in Pawtucket and consists of 23 teams from Rhode Island.

The semifinals are on Aug. 8 and the championship game is Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
