Parking Ban Starts 9 a.m. Tuesday, State About to Run out of Road Salt

Parking Ban Starts 9 a.m. Tuesday, State About to Run out of Road Salt
With yet another winter storm headed our way, Cranston Police have wasted no time in getting a parking ban in place.

The ban starts at 9 a.m. and will last until midnight.

Police said they responded to 20 accidents during the last storm and urged motorists to be careful on the roads, especially during the afternoon commute.

Conditions could get especially treacherous since the state is on the verge of running out of road salt. The dwindling supplies compelled the state Department of Transportation to use less salt on the roads during the last storm.

"The R.I. Emergency Management Agency has been working closely with RIDOT, local emergency managers and departments of public works to monitor salt supplies given the ongoing regional and national salt shortage," DOT spokeswoman Rose Amoros said. "This recent storm has again put a strain on all resources."
