Fire Destroys Tractor Trailer At Hazardous Waste Facility In Cranston

There was also the danger of two other trailers being near the fire, one of which contained flammable pesticides, so those had to be moved.

CRANSTON, RI โ€” A tractor trailer caught fire in Cranston Wednesday morning at a hazardous waste re-finery/recycling plant, destroying the truck and all the waste materials inside, according to fire officials.

Fire officials were called to Safety Kleen on Mills Street a little after 6:15 a.m., but Fire Chief James Warren said the fire took more than three hours to extinguish.

Warren said the fire was large, and the department didn't have enough foam to put it out, so Warwick's fire department was called in to assist.

There was also the danger of two other trailers being in the vicinity, so the firefighters had to get those moved, while tending to the flames.

"There were no other damaged trailers," Warren said. "We were able to move the other trailers and get them out in the parking lot. We know one of the others had pesticides in it, so that would have been a big problem for us."
